Guo Degang is a popular Chinese traditional crosstalk comedian who has over 15 million followers on China’s video-sharing platform Douyin. Along with Guo and his partner Yu Qian, a handful of comedians from the De Yun She Performance Group performed Xiang sheng, or crosstalk comedy, with both jokes about life anecdotes and traditional crosstalk episodes. In recent years, crosstalk comedy is becoming increasingly popular in China, especially with young people.

On 16 – 17 September 2023, Guo Degang and his team performed at ICC Sydney, drawing a full house with tickets in high demand. The audience ranged in age from their early 20s to over 60, consisting entirely of local Chinese Australians, including some second and third-generation Chinese.

Yue Yunpeng is a disciple of Guo Degang, and Guo Qilin is Guo Degang’s son. Both individuals currently enjoy high popularity in China and are beloved by the younger generation.
